Scarperia is located in the province of Florence in Tuscany. A very small but enchanting town, Scarperia has its share of history, monuments and events to boast about.
The dominating 14th century Palazzo Vicari is the most historical palace found in the main square. The original structure has been restored over the years, especially due to damage by earthquakes, and its original appearance has been altered giving it a similar appearance to that of the noted Palazzo Vecchio in the center of Florence.
Inside the Palazzo dei Vicari one can visit the Museum of Knives. As far back as the 15th century, Scarperia has been eminent in the production of cutlery, with particular attention on knives. In the museum one can witness evidence seen and displayed through artisan works.
The Propositura and the Oratorio della Madonna di Piazza are also found in the main square and are definitely worth a visit to admire a collection of art work.
The many activities found in the area around Scarperia is also worth mentioning.
Fishing, golf, and the Italian Racing Circuit of Mugello offers many activities for the sportsman.
Scarperia also hosts its share of cultural activities with the most noted being the 'Diotto, a re-enactment of the founding of Scarperia, held in September and the 'Infiorata', meaning flowered, is held on the last Sunday in May when the village is decorated with flowers and petals forming colourful patterns.
