The marvellous land of Chianti in Tuscany dates back to Etruscan times, for it was they who were the first habitants of Toscana and they who tore down woods to plant. Many of their tombs are still found today in the region which consists of five main communities: Grieve, Radda, Castellina, San Casciano Val di Pesa and Gaiole in Chianti.
The landscape in the Chianti region is breathtaking with rolling hills decorated with ancient castles and villas and roads lined with cypresses.
The region is best known for its wine and the production of it is delimited to the provinces of Florence, Siena, Arezzo, and Grosseto, all in Tuscany.
The production of Chianti wine is based primarily on Sangiovese grapes but includes a variety of others as well.
In recent decades the fame of Chianti, captured with its wine, has added a new product to share in the glory, that of olive oil.
